Ecology, Research and Conservation in Borneo

Borneo is considered the centre of evolution leading to high species and subspecies endemism. Among the endemic species are about 5,000 species of plants, 19 species of fish, 100 species of amphibians, 39 species of birds and 44 species of mammals. It account for about 6% of the biological diversity in the world. Our previous investigations over 20 years have helped to defined mode and tempo of evolution on selected species of mammals in Borneo. Among the primates, chiropterans and rodents there are a few genetic species and subspecies are yet to be described.
