Presentation on Enhancement Short Term Research and Discussion on Long Term Research of Giant Panda

On 13 January 2015 or 22 Rabiulawal 1432 AH, held a meeting for Presentation on Enhancement Short Term Research and Discussion on Long Term Research of Giant Panda at the Meeting Room, Research Management Centre (RMC), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). During the one-day program was led by Professor Dato ‘Dr. Mohd. Tajuddin, Director, Centre for Ecosystem Kenyir, Kenyir Research Institute UMT as a Focal Point of Giant Panda Research. Among the participants in this presentation were representatives from the National Zoo, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).

Night before the date of the main agenda conducted, the participants brought for dinner at Seberang Takir Seafood Restaurant, Kuala Terengganu. Also present at the dinner is Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Komoo Ibrahim, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohd. Effendy Abd. Wahid, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr. Zulfigar, Dean of INOS and Professor Emeritus Dr. Faizah Mohd Sharoum, Director of the Research Institute Kenyir.

Giant Panda program was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohd. Effendy Abd. Wahid and he gave a welcome speech as representative of Vice Chancellor and welcomes the participants representing the National Zoo and universities in the country, leading to the UMT. Also invited, Professor Emeritus Dr. Faizah Mohd Sharoum, Pn. Nor Amalina Elias, Assistant Registrar of RMC, En. Syahrunizan Mohd Abdul Rashid, Assistant Registrar of Kenyir Research Institute and officers from Kenyir Research Institute.

The main agenda of this program is to inform about the presentation and enhancement of short-term research by each participant in the morning session. Among the pivotal program is research on the conservation genetics, disease and care management, nutrition and bioinformatics. Before lunch in the afternoon, the participants brought to the hatchery Akuatrop and around campus using UMT official vehicles. Discussion of long-term research was continued in the afternoon on the same day and discuss the research proposal for a long time period.

The next day, the participants were taken to the places of interest around Kuala Terengganus such as Islamic Civilization Park (Taman Tamadun Islam – TTDI), Crystal Mosque, Kedai Losong Jalan Tok Beng  and Pasar Payang thus promoting the tourism sector of this Darul Iman state. Alhamdulillah, this program runs smoothly and thanks to the administration of UMT especially Professor Dato’ Vice Chancellor and Dean of the RMC for the permission and other services rendered to the success of the presentation program of Giant Panda at UMT.
