On 7th September 2014, Kenyir Research Institute (IPK) organized an event to launch the Kenyir Research Station at Lake Kenyir Resort, Kenyir Lake. This event was attended by the University Management Board (MPU). It kicked off at 9.00am at Sekayu Hall, Lake Kenyir Resort with greetings by our IPK Director, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Faizah binti Mohd Sharoum and then the attendees were briefed about the developments within IPK and our future direction including our plans, targets and research strengths.
UMT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim bin Komoo provided some constructive ideas throughout the presentation, and gave a talk on ways we can improve and develop the institute.
At 10.00 am, a press conference was held to explain our research activities to the media. Dr Reuben Clements was quizzed about his recent publication in the prestigious journal Nature. After the press conference, MPU members were shown an exhibition of the work produced by IPK researchers.
Around 11.30am, the attendees visited the site of the Kenyir Research Station where three temporary cabins have recently been installed to be used during construction of the main buildings. At the site, a “Copter Drone” was demonstrated and its use as research tool, for aerial surveys was discussed. Dr Samuel Walton gave a talk on electro fishing equipment and it’s application in aquatic research.
