The Soul Of Aboriginal Peoples : Taman Negara Kuala Tahan Perspective

A visit to Orang Asli’s village was conducted on 15 and 16 April 2015. Three villages were visited which are Kg Gol (Semaq beri), Kg Dedari and Kg Teresik (Batek) located at Taman Negara Pahang. The purpose of the visit was to get know the community that lived there and as kick start for our projects involving Orang Asli community. Members of the community were interviewed regarding their daily life including their sources of income, food resources and their daily routine activities.

‘Sumpit’ or called as ‘Belaoh’ in Batek were made usually by Orang Asli women to be sold to tourists. The bullet holders were made from buluh, damar and pulai by using a pocket knife and the design is primarily based on flora concept themes.
The real Belaoh, the hunting tools used by Batek men to hunt for small-sized animals in the canopy such as squirrels, monkeys and birds. They only hunted for their own family’s consumption, ensuring the sustainability of the wildlife they exploit.
